Gilli to take Kiss to the streets!
When yachts were sailing up the Derwent at the completion of the Sydney-Hobart, one of them was particularly special to me. I headed off down to the wharf as the yacht ‘Kiss Goodbye to MS’ (see story, Ian from Melbourne) was due in. Steering my mobility scooter towards Constitution Dock I was keen to get there to congratulate and welcome the crew.
Quite by accident I decided to turn the moment into a little fundraising opportunity. As I have had multiple sclerosis for about 35 years I thought I would like to add funds to my favourite charity, MS Research Australia.
I really was just filling in time and so I took a deep breath and a bucket and approached people looking for donations. The crew had raised quite a lot themselves and I was happy to present them with a handful of coins and notes to add to their funds. I do want to thank all those generous people who donated on the day for this cause - they were terrific and kept giving. I think they will remember me on my scooter!
So now I am very motivated to help with the Kiss Goodbye to MS fundraising activities in May. It won’t be hard to find me - the fabulous KGTMS logo has been added to three sides of my van and on the back of my scooter. I always have merchandise with me so if people see me they can always purchase or donate.
I’m happy that on that particular day I just decided at the last minute to go down and meet the crew and the yacht. It has lifted my spirits and now I’m looking forward to being part of this national campaign. I invite everyone to join me to wear red lipstick or a red lip sticker and Kiss Goodbye to MS.
